EPUD Net Metering Agreement (PDF)
Emerald PUD helped create and worked to pass legislation in 1999 to enable our customers to develop small renewable electric generation projects and get paid for the kilowatts they generate.
To qualify, a customer must install a small electric generating project at their home or business, and it must use either solar, wind, hydro, or fuel cell technology to generate electricity. The capacity of the project cannot exceed 25 kilowatts (kW), and it must meet our safety standards and be connected directly to your electric meter (for more details read our Net Metering Policy and Net Metering Contract).
When you generate electricity, the power is first used in your house or business, and any excess flows into EPUD's electric grid. By using the electricity yourself or sending it to EPUD you are offsetting the electricity EPUD would normally have to use and, in effect, being paid for the generation. That means you get the equivalent of your applicable retail rate for the electricity that you generate with your small renewable energy project. However, you can only be reimbursed up to the amount of energy you actually use from EPUD in a given year. To sign up or find out more, call Richard, who handles our Power Resources at 744-7435, or send an email.
