Starting Electric Service for Your Home or Business

Welcome to EPUD! We look forward to working with you to get your home or business electrified as quickly as possible. We’ve found the following steps useful in getting new services hooked up – this will help to avoid delays.

  1. Call the Engineering department at 744-7491 to set up a site visit with an engineer after you have obtained your building permit and/or electrical permit.
  2. The staking engineer will meet with you at the site and return to the office to develop a design for the project. Once this is completed, information will be sent to you with the necessary forms, such as the Line Extension Agreement, easements, and any reference drawings. In addition, if any road permits are required from the city, the county, or ODOT, they will be sent to the appropriate agency. Before the work order can be released to the construction department, all of these items need to be completed.
    1. Fees to be paid with check or cash only.
    2. Obtain easements when needed.
    3. Road permits typically take two weeks for Lane County and longer for ODOT.
If there is any trenching, you will also need to contact the staking engineer to coordinate the two trench inspections that are required.
  3. After all fees have been paid, easements completed, and permits obtained, your job will be released to the Operations Department for construction. In order for them to schedule any work, the following events need to occur:
    1. The trench inspections need to be completed.
    2. The electric service entrance, including the meter base, needs to be inspected by the State or the City. Often, this is taken care of by your electrician. You should check with him/her about this.
    3. Clearing of right-of-way when required.
Once all of the above specifications have been met, or if you have any questions about the process, please contact the Operations Department at 744-7492.
